Ricochet moves on to the next round of the WWE SmackDown World Cup

Tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown kicked off with the first two matches in the first round of the World Cup tournament, which was between Ricochet and Mustafa Ali. Earlier in the day, the odds swung in Ricochet’s favor, as Ali was scrutinized by WWE trainers and told that while he was medically cleared to wrestle, he likely wouldn’t. He did anyway, and made a valiant effort, even coming close to winning big, but a missed bunt would have gotten him in the end. The damage to his ribs was too great, and Ricochet would pin him down and move on to the next round of the tournament.

Towards the end of the match, Ali got on top and went on a splash but Ricochet moved out of the way. Ali fell straight onto his injured ribs, giving Ricochet the opening he needed. Climb to the top and hit Shooting Star and get the pin and win, moving on to the next round of the tournament.

Ricochet will face Braun Strowman in the next round, while the other side of the bracket will pit Santos Escobar against whomever will win in tonight’s match between Sami Zayn and Butch. Whoever wins the tournament will become the first ever SmackDown World Cup winner, and WWE has been showing off the nifty trophy the winner will receive for the past few weeks.

Next up in WWE is Survivor Series War Games, and while the card is still gathering, you can find the current lineup below.
